Senior Software Engineer - ECDIS & Next Generation Navigation

An incredible opportunity awaits you as Senior Software Engineer in our dynamic Navigation Team in Kongsberg Maritime. In this position you will be a clear contributor to develop the next generation of maritime navigation systems.

Our department is responsible for the development of Kongsberg Maritime’s navigation systems, and in this role, you will focus primarily on the software development and maintenance of our core ECDIS (Electronic Chart Display and Information System) product.

ECDIS is a navigation information system that complies with international maritime regulations and can be used as an alternative to paper nautical charts. The ECDIS system consists, among other things, of:

  • Electronic Navigational Charts (ENCs) issued by hydrographic offices
  • Positioning system (GPS / GNSS receiver)
  • Integrated sensors (Radar, AIS, Gyrocompass, Log, Echo sounder)
  • Alarm and safety monitoring (Grounding warnings, Route monitoring, Safety contour warnings)

Key responsibilities

  • Software development and ownership of our ECDIS system
  • Implementation and optimization of chart visualization
  • Contribute to larger system design and architecture discussions
  • Ensure quality through code reviews, technical evaluations, and documentation
  • Build strong knowledge of maritime navigation systems

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree within SW Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Cybernetics, Mathematics or similar fields
  • Solid experience with C++ including interest in newer versions
  • Experience with the Windows development platform
  • Good communication skills in English, both spoken and written since we are operating in an international environment

If you have some experience with the following its a plus, but you will get the training and mentoring needed to bring you up to a professional level.

  • Experience with real-time data visualization
  • Maritime navigation, ECDIS, or other safety-critical systems
  • C#, .NET, WPF, MFC, Git
  • Experience with graphical visualization, preferably map-related
