Ph.d. Research fellow (stipendiat)

Applications are invited for a 3-year position as a ph.d. research fellow (stipendiat) to be based at the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Research Unit, Oslo University Hospital. The position is linked to the project Refining the autism spectrum using advanced brain imaging, genetics, and clinical phenotypes in youth, funded by the South-Eastern Norway Regional Health Authority. The project aims to combine brain imaging, clinical assessments, cognitive tests, genetics and biomarkers to increase our understanding of brain development and clinical characteristics in children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorders and other mental disorders.

The position will be integrated with the Multimodal Imaging group (https://www.sv.uio.no/psi/english/research/groups/multimodal-imaging) at the Department of Psychology, University of Oslo, and builds on a close collaboration with the K.G. Jebsen Centre for Neurodevelopmental Disorders (https://www.med.uio.no/klinmed/english/research/centres/kgj-neurodevelopmental-disorders/) and Centre for Precision Psychiatry (https://www.med.uio.no/klinmed/english/research/groups/precision-psychiatry/).

The ph.d. fellow will be directly involved in the coordination and management of an ongoing data collection and will have an important role in the project team, which includes several ph.d. fellows and colleagues at all levels. The candidate will be directly involved in the MRI data collection, and, depending on the competence, key tasks may also include assessments of children and adolescents and liaison with clinical sites and collaborators, including the National Institute of Public Health (MoBa study cohort). The position is an excellent opportunity for candidates who wish to pursue a career in clinical neuroscience and mental health research.

The position will be situated within the Section for Child and Adolescent Mental Health Research. This unit's primary aim is to generate new knowledge about the assessment and treatment of children and adolescents with psychiatric disorders. Kvalifikasjoner:

Required qualifications

  • The candidate must be qualified for admission to the ph.d. program at the Faculty of Social Science, University of Oslo (https://www.uio.no/english/research/phd/).
  • Applicants must hold a master’s level degree in psychology, medicine, cognitive neuroscience or similar. Candidates who will complete their degree within the starting date will be considered.

Personal skills

  • Strong communication skills in written and spoken English.
  • Strong communication and collaborative skills (team player).
  • The candidate will be involved in the MRI data collection, therefore some work during evenings and weekends is expected. Flexibility regarding working hours is therefore essential.

The following qualifications will be considered an advantage:

  • Experience with brain MRI data acquisition and analysis.
  • Clinical experience with children and adolescents
  • Experience with clinical studies including children and adolescents.
  • Experience with study coordination including screening and booking of participants, data collection and participant interaction is an advantage.
  • Experience with statistical analysis and programming (R, Matlab, Python or similar).
  • Fluency in both spoken and written Norwegian.
