Postdoctoral fellowship in neurodegenerative genomics
Offentlig forvaltning
Department of Neurology, Oslo University Hospital, is the largest neurological department in Norway, with three wards, clinical neurophysiology services and activity at two different hospital locations - Ullevål and Rikshospitalet. The department is responsible for patients of all neurological diagnoses, with special clinical and scientific focus on cerebrovascular disease, movement disorders, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, headache and other pain disorders, cognition and neurogenetics.
We are currently accepting applications for a 100% position as postdoctoral research fellow. The position is funded by a grant from the South-Eastern Regional Health Authorities, Norway, (Helse Sør-Øst) for a project titled "Tracking environmental causes of neurodegenerative disease using DNA methylation profiling". The project will take advantage of DNA methylation signatures in the blood as biomarkers of previous exposures to major environmental risk factors in Parkinson's (PD) and Huntington’s disease (HD). The goal is to gain important new insights about the contribution of specific environmental risk factors to neurodegeneration in PD and HD. We also aim to develop novel tools for individual risk assessment based on methylation profile scores, which may ultimately help underpin the development of precision medicine for neurodegenerative disease.
The postdoctoral fellow will work within the research group for Huntington's disease and neurodegenerative genomics, headed by project leader Lasse Pihlstrøm (https://www.ous-research.no/pihlstrom). The project will also involve extensive collaborations with excellent national and international partners.
Start date in September 2025 or otherwise as agreed in 2025. Duration 3 years from start date. Part-time research work over a longer project period may be discussed as an alternative.
The research group is part of the Neuroscience Research Unit at Oslo University Hospital, where a number of research groups focused around molecular neuroscience share modern laboratory and office facilities in the Domus Medica 4 building, close to the hospital location at Rikshospitalet, Oslo. Much of the project work is in principle not strictly tied to any specific location.
Oslo University Hospital is a workplace with great diversity. We believe this is crucial to solving our tasks in the best possible way. We want this diversity to be reflected among the applicants for our positions, and encourage all qualified candidates, regardless of background, to apply.
Kvalifikasjoner:
The applicant must have completed or be close to completing a PhD degree and have a relevant scientific background, preferably with experience from the field of genetics, genomics or epigenetics. The applicant should have solid general competence in data processing and be familiar with central bioinformatic and statistical software and platforms. Competence in neurodegenerative disease and movement disorders would be considered a strength but is not a necessary requirement. Clinical qualifications, in particular from the field of neurology, will be considered an advantage.
The applicant must be fluent in English. Norwegian language skills would be preferable, but not an absolute requirement for the position. Good skills and high-level experience in scientific publishing would be an advantage.
