An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Design Engineer within Merchant (Towing Winches), Propulsion & Handling. In this role, you will contribute to the development of high‑performance products for handling applications, with a focus on towing winches for tugboats.

The position involves both new product development and sustaining engineering for existing platforms. You will join a dedicated group of engineers developing products for the Merchant Handling portfolio (anchoring, mooring, and towing winches). You will collaborate closely with colleagues from other engineering disciplines to optimize time‑to‑market and deliver effective, efficient solutions to our customers.

The position is within our Handling business area, which owns, develops, and delivers world‑class handling solutions with a focus on system solutions and integration that drive increased efficiency in our customers’ operations. This area is responsible for product and technology development, supply chain operations, and project delivery for all of Kongsberg Maritime’s winches and handling solutions.

Key accountabilities

• Develop innovative and robust solutions for the standard product range (towing winches) and for customer delivery projects

• Take technical responsibility for assigned projects
• Provide engineering support to sales and customer service teams
• Maintain and improve existing products throughout their lifecycle

We think you should have

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
• Competence and experience in 3D mechanical and structural design
• Skills in modern design tools (such as FEA) are considered an advantage
• Basic knowledge of hydraulic design is an advantage
• Practical experience in the maritime industry is beneficial
