A Transport Manager is a Transport Manager, right? Wrong.  Our team in Killingholme aren’t looking for a general Transport Manager, we’re looking for a Transport Manager who can manage special cargo and ideally has experience of this.

DFDS Special Cargo is an industry leader when it comes to international flatbed and abnormal load transport. We operate one of the largest specialised fleets available in mainland Europe, the UK, and Ireland.  Some cargo just doesn’t fit the standard trailer format due to dimensions, weight, or the nature of the goods and special cargo requires special acceptance, handling, loading, and transport procedures.

As a Transport Manager in Special Cargo, you’ll be managing a small team of Transport Planners and around 30 drivers.  Your team will be planning the collections and deliveries of the cargo whilst being well versed in specialist equipment, legislation, and regulations.  It’s a really hands-on role so we’ll need you to roll up your sleeves and take on some of the planning in periods of high volume. 

Health & Safety is the highest priority for us at DFDS, as naturally, if we all work in a safe environment; we have our colleagues delivering the best service they can.  This is why we will need you to deliver on these standards.  We’ll also need you to have a strong knowledge of the working time directive and drivers’ hours and how we can link this with truck utilisation, maximising loads and developing our drivers.  Having your International CPC is essential.
