Job description

We are looking for a trainee for our Trading & Origination area, which main purpose is to make profits by buying and selling energy and energy related derivatives based on Statkraft’s market view. The activity is primarily focused on standardized products, largely traded through exchanges.

Besides stand-alone profitability, trading contributes to increasing Statkraft’s competitiveness in global energy markets. Our expertise feeds to increasing value creation around the company’s generation assets. It also contributes to strengthening the company’s foothold in renewables markets by providing excellent medium- and long-term risk management solutions.

Core activities include market analysis, executing trades, as well as continuous risk and position management to keep risk under control and limit losses.

 

Your role

As a trainee in trading & origination, you will contribute to the proprietary trading and portfolio management activities. The role will be focused around market analysis and portfolio management. The main responsibilities will be among the following:

• Gathering intelligence of fundamental drivers of relevant energy commodities
• Explore innovative analysis approaches and strategies that will directly add value to our PnL
• Develop and continuously improve state-of-the art analytic tools for trading and portfolio management
• Collaborate closely with team members, internal and external analysis functions to refine and leverage know-how and market views

 

Your profile

• Master’s degree in Mathematics, Economics, Finance Computer Science or similar field.
• Excellent quantitative and analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail.
• Strong programming skills in a mainstream language e.g. Python
• Reliable team player with solid communication skills.
• Continuous improvement mindset with high level of initiative and motivation.

About the International Trainee Programme

The objective of the programme is to develop young talents in the best way possible, and provide insight into our entire operations and value chain. It is a one-year programme with three different work rotations of four months, of which at least one will be abroad. The programme is tailored to the trainee’s background and the unit’s competence needs. As a trainee you will attend regular courses and social gatherings where the trainee group meets to acquire new skills and share experiences. Upon completion of the programme you are offered a permanent position in the department where you will continue to work in a new position.
