Senior Solar Technical Manager

Climate change and global warming are among the greatest challenges of our day. As Europe’s largest producer of renewable energy, with 3600 employees in 15 countries across the globe, Statkraft will be part of the global transition towards a low carbon economy. Our aim is to become a leading developer of onshore wind and solar projects, taking on a significantly larger number of projects than before.

Statkraft’s Project Delivery unit is responsible for the delivery of our solar, wind and hydro plants and providing development stage support to our regional project development teams.  Capabilities include, technical, project management, procurement, health and safety, environmental and social compliance.  Within this unit, the solar technical team is responsible for PV plant design, yield analysis, due diligence and quality assurance across procurement, engineering and construction stages.

We are now expanding in a number of European markets and seek a Senior Solar Technical Manager to join this team. 

As a Senior Solar Technical Manager, you will play a key role in design optimisation, LCoE reduction and quality assurance across an international portfolio of projects.  Working within a growing, dynamic and international team of solar specialists, you will normally be based in our Oslo or Amsterdam office, although other locations in close proximity might be considered.  Periodic travel will be required between each office location and to project sites within Europe. You will report to the Head of Solar Technical, based in Oslo, and individual Project Managers.

Your role

In the context of the development and construction of international, large-scale, ground and floating solar PV projects, your main responsibilities will include:

  • A combination of managing and undertaking technical project tasks throughout the project lifecycle, including: due diligence, site assessment, design, yield analysis, specifications and construction monitoring.
  • Managing, supporting and quality checking technical deliverables completed by in-house engineers and external consultants.
  • Deriving construction programme and cost estimates, in collaboration with others.
  • Producing EPC and O&M contract technical schedules.
  • Managing technical quality assurance and project compliance with standards and codes.
  • Technical input to construction quality and management plans.
  • Review and approval of EPC contractor proposals, deliverables and payment requests.
  • Managing the resolution of construction stage performance and quality issues.

In a supporting capacity your responsibilities will also include:

  • Negotiating service provider, equipment supplier agreements and EPC and O&M contracts;
  • Value engineering and risk analysis at a project level;
  • Keeping up to date with PV plant technology and market developments;
  • Managing sub-consultants;
  • Contributing to team operations, continuous improvement and R&D.
Your profile
  • Degree level qualification in electrical, electro-mechanical, mechanical, industrial or energy engineering, physics or other relevant technical disciplines.
  • At least 7 years’ work experience in the energy sector in a related role.
  • At least 5 years’ work experience in a technical capacity within the utility-scale solar sector, with experience across engineering, procurement, construction and operation project stages;
  • Extensive related experience and knowledge of permitting, investment, revenue and contractual aspects of developing, building and operating utility-scale solar PV plants.
  • Proficiency in PVSyst and experience of at least one utility-scale, specialist PV design software package.
  • Achieved or soon to achieve professional chartership or accreditation with a relevant professional, technical institution.
  • Fluency in English – written and verbal – other languages will be an advantage.
  • Excellent communication skills – written and verbal
