Research Scientist

Jern, stål og metaller - Produksjon

Vianode AS is owned by world-leading industrial and financial companies Hydro, and Altor. We aim to become a leading solutions provider to the fast-growing battery industry.

Our advanced anode graphite is a key component in the production of lithium-ion batteries and contributes to increased range for electric vehicles, faster charging, long life, and improved safety.

Our first industrial plant for the production of anode graphite is built in Norway, and the start of production is planned in 2024. The next phase large-scale plant is in the planning stage and aims to be in production in 2026.

As a research scientist in the Recycling project team you are responsible to conduct trials and testing as agreed with the rest of the team members.

You will be responsible to develop detailed trial plans and schedule and follow up on trials with pilot plant personnel and other product development personnel, in addition to carry out own experiments/trails in lab-scale equipment.

Key responsibilities in the role

Your primary responsibilities will involve hands-on involvement in planning and executing laboratory-scale experiments. You will be engaged in:

  • Planning and conducting experiments using lab-scale equipment, including mixing and heat treatment processes. Organise trails and keep track of sample logistics.
  • Material and electrochemical characterization
  • Reporting and discussion of results
  • Participate in regular team meetings, department meetings and project updates, ensuring alignment and effective communication across the team.
  • Participate in meetings with collaboration partners (e.g. external research projects)
  • Contribute to routine reporting and documentation of experimental results, maintaining a comprehensive database of research findings.

Required Qualifications

  • A Master's degree or higher in a relevant field (e.g., Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline).
  • Proven experience in material processing and characterization, especially related to graphite and similar materials.
  • Hands-on experience in electrochemical testing and analysis.
  • Proven experience in a product development role
  • Strong understanding of  procedures, equipment, and safety protocols.
  • Excellent organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize assignments, and problem-solve effectively.
  • Proficiency in relevant software for data analysis.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.

  • Ensures precision in all procedures and documentation

Location: This position is based in Kristiansand.
