PhD fellowship in immulology/rheumatology at Rikshospitalet

PhD scholar at the Section for Rheumatology, Rikshospitalet, Oslo University Hospital HF

The Section for Rheumatology now has a vacant 3-year position as a 100 % PhD scholar. The Section for Rheumatology is part of the Department of Surgery, Inflammatory Medicine and Transplantation at Rikshospitalet. The rheumatology section has extensive research activities both in terms of clinical research and translational research where we collaborate with Scandinavian countries including Denmark and Sweden.

The research project in question is financed with funds from The South-Eastern Norway Regional Health Authority and the supervisor is a senior researcher at the section. The scholarship holder must apply for admission to the PhD program at the University of Oslo and follow normal progression there.

Kvalifikasjoner:

  • Background from medicine, molecular biology, biomedicine, or equivalent. 
  • Must be familiar with handling and processing clinical samples.
  • Must be familiar with techniques such as advanced flowcytometry, ELISA and Immunohistochemistry.
  • Must be familiar with statistical programs such as SPSS.
  • Experience with isolation and characterization of urinary and plasma extracellular vesicles will be a clear advantage.
  • Experience with kidney histology and pathology will be an advantage.
  • Experience with research in autoimmune diseases will be an advantage.
  • Good communication skills in Norwegian (Scandinavian), both orally and in writing will be an advantage.

Personlige egenskaper:

  • For employment in the PhD position, you must be qualified for admission to the PhD program at the Faculty of Medicine and participate in organized doctoral studies within the employment period.

 

Admission requires:

  1. Hold a master's degree with the average grade C or better on your master's thesis and as an overall grade in your master's degree. The 5-year program must include at least a 20 ECTS master thesis and the 2-year master’s program must include at least a 30 ECTS master thesis. Applicants who have completed higher education abroad shall be considered in line with Section 3-5 (3) of the University and University Colleges Act

  2. A good command of English is required of all students attending the University of Oslo. International PhD research fellows who are not native speakers of English, must document their proficiency in English by taking one of the following internationally recognised tests:
    • TOEFL - Test of English as Foreign Language, internet based test (iBT) (test centre or home edition) with minimum total score of 90
    • IELTS - International English Language Testing System with minimum overall band score of 6.5
    • Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) and Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) from the University of Cambridge
    • PTE Academic - Pearson Test of English Academic with minimum overall score of 62.
    • The following applicants are exempt from the above-mentioned requirements:
    • Applicants from EU/EEA/EFTA-countries
    • Applicants with one year of completed university studies in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, Singapore, United Kingdom, United States
    • Applicants with an International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma
    • Applicants who have completed a Bachelor's and/or a Master's degree with English as the language of instruction in one of the Nordic countries or the Netherlands. 

  3. Applicants with a foreign education will be subjected to an evaluation of whether the educational background is equal to Norwegian higher education, following national guidelines from NOKUT.
