Position Summary:

As a Test Engineer reporting to the Site/Operations Manager, you'll play a pivotal role in our organization, overseeing the integration and testing of electronic and electro-mechanical modules, SONAR heads, Surface Power/Telemetry assemblies, and SONAR systems across various departments including Manufacturing, Customer Service (Reverse Logistics), and R&D.

 

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct mechanical integration of electronics and electro-mechanical assemblies into SONAR heads.
  • Configure, program, and test various electronics modules and compass endcaps.
  • Perform comprehensive testing and calibration of SONAR heads, covering pressure, temperature, and compass calibration.
  • Configure, program, and conduct functional testing and calibration of Surface power and telemetry modules.
  • Conduct Hydro Acoustic testing and calibration of all SONAR Systems in test tank(s) and at field test facilities.
  • Maintain and develop Hydro Acoustic test systems using LABVIEW and MATLAB.
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement and uphold quality standards throughout the Operations Department.
  • Manage materials effectively for test manufacturing in a cost-efficient, accurate, and timely manner.
  • Ensure mechanical manufacturing and hydrostatic pressure test equipment and fixtures are well-maintained.
  • Participate in cross-functional learning and training initiatives.
  • Adhere to Quality & HSE programs and promote excellent working practices.
  • Create Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and contribute to process, procedure, and product improvements in the JIRA system.
  • Conduct 5S Audits across manufacturing areas.
  • Document Non-conformances in the Visual Quality Management system.

 

Additional Functions (as required):

  • Handle Reverse Logistic functions for Warranty and non-Warranty RMAs.
  • Perform functional testing of motor drive and optical position sensor assemblies.
  • Conduct impedance testing of final single beam, side-scan, and multi-beam transducer assemblies.
  • Manage oil filling and degassing for various motor drive assemblies.
  • Execute mechanical assembly tasks for SONAR heads.
  • Conduct Hydro-static pressure testing for SONAR heads and transducer assemblies.
  • Perform Hydro Acoustic beam pattern testing for side-scan transducer assemblies.
  • Conduct electrical testing (DC, Serial, Ethernet) of various cables and cable sub-assemblies using CableyEye and Fluke CableIQ cable testing systems.

 

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Diploma of Technology / Associate degree in a related field is required.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar position.
  • Soft Skills: Team Think, Adaptability, Strong Work Ethic, Attention to detail.
  • Hard Skills: Strong mechanical aptitude, experience with complex power and telemetry systems, familiarity with programming and electronic test equipment, ability to interpret schematics and engineering documentation.
  • Innovative problem-solving approach combined with evidence-based decision-making.
  • Ability to manage changing priorities driven by customer needs.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral.

 

Knowledge Requirements:

  • Familiarity with ISO 9001:2015, MSDS/WHMIS, IPC-A-610, IPC-A-620 principles and practices.
  • Understanding of SONAR (Hydro Acoustics) theory, principles, and practices.
  • Proficiency in LABVIEW, MATLAB.
