POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Hardware Manager, the Engineering Support Technologist plays a key role in supporting the development of advanced sonar systems and supporting software. This position involves hands-on prototyping, testing, and integration of hardware and software components, as well as providing engineering and production support throughout the product development lifecycle.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in the design, assembly, and testing of sonar prototypes and related electronics.
  • Support software integration and testing on embedded and PC-based platforms.
  • Conduct functional and performance testing of sonar systems in lab and field environments.
  • Document and process engineering change orders (ECOs) and support configuration management.
  • Collaborate with engineers to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during development and production.
  • Solder electronics for prototyping and rework.
  • Provide technical support to production teams including test procedures and quality checks.
  • Maintain lab equipment and ensure proper calibration and documentation.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Diploma or degree in Electronics Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in electronics and software prototyping and testing.
  • Proficiency with test equipment (oscilloscopes, multi-meters, signal generators, etc.).
  • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and issue tracking tools.
  • Strong documentation and communication skills.
  • High level of energy, enthusiasm, optimism, and a sense of urgency and passion for excellence.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and to adapt to priority changes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience acting as a liaison between departments internally.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Experience working in an R&D electronics environment for 2+ years is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of electronics troubleshooting and testing.
  • Solid electronics background, including the use of oscilloscopes, analysers, and power supplies.
  • Software and firmware testing, verification and validation experience is preferred.
  • Experience with sonar systems, acoustic sensors, or marine technologies is preferred.
  • SWQA experience related to desktop and firmware applications preferred.
