An exciting opportunity waits you as Director, R&D leading Remote and Autonomous (R&A) research and development as well as technology work at Kongsberg Maritime. In this role, you will be part of Remote and Autonomous management team working with internal and external stakeholders to develop and implement technical capabilities for autonomous and remotely operated vessels. You are responsible for R&As technology strategy and aligning it with the bigger Kongsberg technology initiatives. You will be leading HW, SW and technology teams in R&A and are also responsible for product validation and verification.

Key accountabilities

• Create and maintain R&A technology strategy and roadmap together with different Kongsberg entities
• Drive new and novel technologies into Kongsberg products
• Set targets for R&A SW and HW teams to ensure smooth execution of technology and product roadmaps
• Plan and manage product development and related research projects in a timely manner according to agreed roadmap
• Support product and technology deliveries from R&D perspective
• Manage testing, verification and validation of technology deliverables both for HW and SW
• Manage R&A release management process and documentation
• Establish and manage holistic testing pipeline through R&A Labs
• Technology benchmarking and competitor analyses
• Ensure planning, execution, and completion of large-scale integrated projects, ensuring quality, on-time delivery and customer satisfaction
• Lead a matrixed project team and foster a collaborative and high-performance culture within the project
• Cultivate strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, customers, and cross-functional teams to ensure clear communication and seamless project execution
• Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimize project disruptions

Qualifications and experience

• Experienced in leading SW development work in a highly regulated environment
• Background in a hands-on leader role combining HW and SW into products and technologies
• Practical experience in different Cloud, virtualization and HCI technologies
• Good command in embedding AI into business-driven solutions
• 10-15 years of team lead experience in a complex R&D environment
• Proven track record in delivering value adding customer solutions
• Ability to lead and positively motivate engineering teams working under timeline pressure while delivering novel and pioneering technologies
• Experience in regulatory approvals on system and concept qualification levels
• Project management competence and experience, preferably in the maritime industry
• Technical understanding and experience about automation and control systems. Knowledge in remotely operated and/or autonomous systems is a plus
• Master of Science in Technology or in another relevant field
• Fluent communication skills in English and Norwegian/Swedish, Finnish is a plus
